Chinese-backed production. Serialized stories shot in portrait orientation, episodes running one to three minutes, designed to be swiped through the same way you swipe TikTok. Both blew up globally in 2025 and most Western media outlets barely covered it happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AppTweak noticed something about how content gets discovered inside these apps too. Gone are the carousels and genre menus. Instead you get full-screen swipeable feeds where a clip grabs you and you tap to watch the rest. Social media trained that behaviour and now scripted television has adopted it. Portrait mode. Short bursts. Simple formats beating complicated ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>About 40% of all daily app downloads happen between 7pm and 10pm.<\/strong> Worth thinking about because that evening window is where every entertainment category on this list fights for the same three hours of someone&#8217;s attention. Streaming, gaming, scrolling, chatting, and a whole layer of browser-based activity that never touches an app store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Casino tables updating in real time. Together with ChatGPT&#8217;s 770 million, two AI chatbots crossed a billion installs in a single year. Both categorised as Productivity in the app stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Except&#8230; a pretty large share of what people actually do with ChatGPT falls squarely into leisure. Bedtime stories for kids. Fictional scenarios. Role-play conversations. Image generation for fun. Song lyrics nobody will record but that were amusing to read. Planning imaginary trips they will never take. The productivity label is accurate for some users and completely wrong for others, and the split probably leans toward entertainment if anyone ever bothered to measure it properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sensortower.com\/report\/state-of-ai-apps-2025\">35% of new apps launched in 2025 had AI baked in<\/a><\/strong> (Sensor Tower&#8217;s count). CapCut, which is TikTok&#8217;s video editing companion, also ranks near the top.
