{"id":26670,"date":"2026-09-30T08:05:22","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T08:05:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mobilemall.co\/blog\/?p=26670"},"modified":"2026-09-30T08:05:26","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T08:05:26","slug":"apple-pay-is-live-in-india-but-only-for-axis-bank-credit-cards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mobilemall.co\/blog\/apple-pay-is-live-in-india-but-only-for-axis-bank-credit-cards\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple Pay is live in India, but only for Axis Bank credit cards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Twelve years after it launched in the US, Apple Pay finally works in India as of today. <strong>The catch is that it only works with Visa and Mastercard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axis.bank.in\/cards\/credit-card\">credit cards issued by Axis Bank<\/a><\/strong>, which makes Axis the first Indian bank on the service and leaves everyone else waiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-you-can-use-it-on-right-now\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What You Can Use It On Right Now<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">iPhone, iPad and <a href=\"https:\/\/mobilemall.co\/apple-watch-series-10-aluminum\">Apple Watch<\/a> are supported from day one. Mac is coming later, though Apple hasn&#8217;t given a date for it. Adding a card is done either through the Axis Bank app or straight from Apple Wallet, and after that you tap to pay at any NFC terminal, in apps, or on websites. <strong>No PIN at the terminal and no OTP at checkout<\/strong>, which is the part most people will notice first, since typing a one time password into every online payment is the usual routine here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/mobilemall.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/apple-pay-is-live-in-india-1024x1024.webp\" alt=\"Apple Pay is live in India\" class=\"wp-image-26677\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Merchants already accepting it include Blinkit, Zomato, Croma, Tata 1mg, Chaayos, Ixigo, Reliance brands and Apple&#8217;s own stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-it-does-not-support\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What It Does Not Support<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where the launch looks small. <strong>UPI is not supported, RuPay cards are not supported, and neither are debit cards or American Express.<\/strong> Anyone whose daily spending runs through UPI, which is most of the country, gains nothing from this yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"532\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/mobilemall.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/apple-pay-in-india-532x1024.webp\" alt=\"Apple Pay in India\" class=\"wp-image-26681\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"532\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/mobilemall.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/apple-pay-india-532x1024.webp\" alt=\"Apple Pay India\" class=\"wp-image-26680\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The numbers put it in perspective. Axis accounts for roughly <strong>11% of national credit card spending<\/strong>, while HDFC, SBI Card and ICICI hold about 64% between them. HDFC and ICICI are reportedly still in talks with Apple. Meanwhile UPI handled <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npci.org.in\/what-we-do\/upi\/product-statistics\">24.51 billion payments in August alone<\/a><\/strong>, so Apple Pay is arriving into a market where cards are the smaller half of the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-how-the-security-works\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How The Security Works<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple&#8217;s press release covers the privacy side, and the mechanism is the same one it uses elsewhere. Your actual card number isn&#8217;t stored on the device, isn&#8217;t stored on Apple&#8217;s servers, and never reaches the merchant. Each transaction goes through a <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/102237\">Device Account Number with tokenisation<\/a> from Visa or Mastercard, so what the shop receives is a one time cryptographic token rather than your card details. Apple also says transactions stay between you, the merchant and your bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your card issuer&#8217;s normal fees still apply, so nothing changes on that side.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Twelve years after it launched in the US, Apple Pay finally works in India as of today.
