Gemini Now Works for Walking and Cycling in Google Maps

Google added Gemini to Maps back in November, but it only worked while driving. That’s changed—the AI assistant now covers walking and cycling directions too.

The pitch is basically a personal tour guide in your pocket. Walking somewhere unfamiliar and want to know what neighbourhood you’ve wandered into? Ask. Curious about highly-rated restaurants along your route? Ask that too. Gemini pulls from Maps data to suggest places as you go.

Cycling is where hands-free actually matters. Fumbling with your phone while riding is a pain at best and dangerous at worst. Gemini can tell you your ETA, remind you about upcoming meetings, even send texts on your behalf. All voice, no stopping to tap.

The rollout is happening globally on iOS and Android wherever Gemini already works. Standard Google caveat applies though—”rolling out” means some people get it immediately while others wait weeks staring at the same old interface. Check your app, and if it’s not there yet, check again next week.
