Huawei put the Mate X7 out last November, and a new rumour from China says the Mate X8 is following the same calendar, with a launch pencilled in for next month. If that holds, Huawei’s next book-style foldable arrives in November with larger screens on both sides, a new Kirin chip and at least 6,000mAh of battery.
Both Screens Are Getting A Little Bigger
The growth is small but it’s on both panels. The cover display goes to 6.5 inches and the inner folding screen to 8.15 inches, against 6.49 and 8 inches on the Mate X7. No one’s going to notice the cover change in a pocket. The extra 0.15 inches inside is the part people who read or edit documents on the big screen might actually feel.
Two Chips, Depending On Which Version You Buy
Huawei is reportedly splitting the range between the Kirin 9050 and the Kirin 9050 Pro, with some versions getting the standard chip and others the Pro, the same tiered approach it has used on recent Mate models. The Mate X7 runs the Kirin 9030 Pro, so that’s a two-generation step on paper, though earlier leaks this year had pointed to a Kirin 9040, so the exact name may still move before launch.
The Camera And Battery Details
The leak lists:
- A 50MP main camera on a 1/1.28-inch sensor with variable aperture
- A 50MP periscope telephoto
- A battery of at least 6,000mAh
Earlier reports also mentioned a thinner camera module, which would matter on a foldable, since the bump is what makes these phones wobble when they’re lying open on a desk.
The Privacy Display Comes With A Question Mark
One version is said to carry a Privacy Display, similar to the feature Samsung introduced on the Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year, where the screen narrows its viewing angle so the person beside you on the train can’t read it. What the leak doesn’t say is whether that works on both screens or only one, and on a phone with two displays that’s a fair thing to want answered.

None of this is confirmed by Huawei yet. A launch in China would come first, and Huawei’s foldables have tended to reach other markets weeks or months later, if they arrive outside China at all.
