New Report Hints at iPhone 17 Release Window and Key Expectations

From United States

Apple doesn’t change tradition unless it has to. Last year’s iPhone 16 lineup broke cover on September 9, and it looks like the iPhone 17 will follow almost the same playbook. Mark Gurman has been hinting for a while that the next launch would land in the second week of September. Now, a new report from Germany may have pinned down the exact date.

According to iPhone-ticker, unnamed sources from German network carriers say the big event is booked for Tuesday, September 9. If they’re right, that’s when Apple will lift the curtain on the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The first shipments are expected to head out about ten days later, with retail sales beginning Friday, September 19. That timeline mirrors last year’s, when the iPhone 16 hit shelves on the 20th.

A New “Air” in the Lineup

One model is attracting more attention than the rest — the iPhone 17 Air. It’s said to be Apple’s thinnest phone ever, coming in at around 5.5mm. This model is replacing the “Plus” variant, which has consistently lagged behind in sales over multiple generations. Retiring it might have been inevitable.

Still, the Air is a trade-off. To hit that ultra-slim profile, Apple has reportedly cut down on battery capacity — just 2,900mAh — and trimmed the camera setup to a single 48MP sensor. That could make it a tough sell for anyone who values long battery life or more versatile photography.

Looking Ahead

Whether the iPhone 17 Air can outperform the Plus in sales is anyone’s guess. Some fans are intrigued by the slim form factor, while others see it as a step backward in practicality. Either way, we won’t have to wait long to find out.

The clock is ticking — just about a month until Apple takes the stage. As always, the run-up to launch is when the most interesting leaks tend to appear, so expect more details soon.
