OnePlus Will Bring Two Flagships To India, And One Of Them Was Supposed To Be China-Only

OnePlus has the 16 due in China on October 12, with the Ace 7 either sharing the stage or following close behind. A tipster on X now says the company is lining up two flagship launches for India, either in December or early 2027, and the second name on that list is the surprise.

The 16R Is All But Confirmed

The first is the OnePlus 16R, which is nobody’s idea of news. OnePlus has rebranded its Ace line as the R series for years now, the 15R was the Ace 6T under a different badge, so the 16R will almost certainly be the Ace 7 with the sticker changed. If that holds, the Indian version is expected to carry:

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
  • 6.78-inch flat OLED, 1.5K resolution, 185Hz
  • 200MP main camera and a 50MP telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom
  • 9,000 mAh battery with 100W wired charging
  • Metal frame and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader

Early price talk in India sits close to Rs 69,999, roughly $790, though nothing has been confirmed on that side either.

The OnePlus 16 Wasn’t Meant To Come At All

This is the part worth paying attention to. Through the summer, tipsters including Yogesh Brar and Debayan Roy were saying the OnePlus 16 would stay in China, and that the 16R would stand in as the brand’s top phone for India. The reasoning was that OnePlus pulled out of North America and Europe in July, leaving India as its only big market outside China, and that chip costs made the full-fat 16 hard to price there.

Now the same account says the 16 “might” be the second launch after all. The word “might” is doing a lot of work in that sentence, and OnePlus India has said nothing beyond its usual line that business continues as normal. Until the company speaks, the honest position is that the 16R is coming and the 16 is a maybe that has gone from no to possibly inside three months.
