Gemini on Google TV: Features and Availability

Google announced Gemini for Google TV on September 23, 2025. Gemini is an AI model replacing Google Assistant on the platform. It adds new tools for recommendations, summaries, and tasks. Rollout starts with select TVs, expanding later. Below, key facts are explained—what it does and how it works.

What Gemini Does

Gemini handles voice chats on TV. Say “Hey Google” or press remote mic to start. It gives show suggestions based on likes, like “funny sci-fi series.” Explains plots without spoilers, recaps seasons, or reviews shows from sources like Rotten Tomatoes. Finds content by description, e.g., “movie with a talking dog.” For non-TV tasks, it pulls YouTube videos—ask “how to cook pasta” for step guides, or “learn guitar” for lessons. This makes TV a helper for daily stuff.

Availability and Devices

Now on TCL QM9K series TVs only. These are 2025 models with Google TV built-in. Expands later 2025 to Google TV Streamer (a $99 box for any TV), Hisense U7/U8/UX 2025 TVs, Walmart onn. 4K Pro streamer, and TCL QM7K/QM8K/X11K 2025 models. More features coming, but no exact date. Works on devices with Google TV OS, needs internet for AI.

How It Works

Gemini runs on-device for basics, cloud for complex queries. No extra cost—free with a Google account. Privacy: voice data processed like Assistant, deletable in settings. Compared to the old Assistant, it’s smarter at context, like following up on recaps.

Check Google support for updates or your TV settings to enable.
