Huawei packs nova 16 SE, MatePad Pro and 18-inch foldable laptop into one August 5 event

Huawei is clearing its shelf in one go. The company has confirmed an August 5 launch event covering the nova 16 SE, a new MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, the MateBook Pro S, an upgraded MatePad Pro, and a fresh lineup of RGB MiniLED TVs.

The phone is the one with actual confirmed specs. Huawei has already locked in the following for the nova 16 SE:

  • Kirin 8020 chipset, 5G, running HarmonyOS out of the box
  • 6.84-inch AMOLED, up to 8,000 nits peak brightness
  • 50MP main camera with Red Maple Imaging – first time this system drops down from the flagships to the SE line
  • 8,500mAh battery, 66W wired charging

That battery is the standout number. The regular nova 16, 16 Pro and 16 Ultra all shipped with 7,000mAh cells in June, so the cheapest model in the family is somehow getting the biggest battery, around 21% bigger. Odd move on paper, sensible if you’re the person who buys an SE precisely because you charge once a day and want it to stay that way.

The rest of the lineup is thinner on details. The new MateBook Fold Ultimate Design succeeds Huawei’s original 18-inch foldable-screen laptop and comes in three colors, the MateBook Pro S weighs in at 798 grams, and the MatePad Pro refresh has no published specs at all yet. Everything except the tablet is already up for pre-order on Huawei’s official store, which tells you the MatePad is probably the least finished of the bunch.
