Panel production is where a phone launch really starts, and ZDNet Korea reports Samsung Display is beginning mass production of the Galaxy S27 AMOLEDs this month. Component production at Samsung Electronics apparently began back in September, with the wider run scaling up through mid-October.
That points at an early 2027 launch rather than anything this year. Displays get built months ahead of assembly, so panels coming off the line now are for phones going together in the first quarter.

Four Models, And The Pro Is The New One
The report lists the lineup as:
- Galaxy S27 – 6.27 inches
- Galaxy S27+ – 6.66 inches
- Galaxy S27 Pro – 6.47 inches
- Galaxy S27 Ultra – 6.89 inches
The Pro is the addition, and it’s the smaller of the two premium models, which is an odd place to sit until you notice it’s being treated as a premium panel rather than a mid one.
The Pro And Ultra Get A Better Panel Than The Other Two
This is the part worth pulling out. Samsung Display is reportedly putting its M16 material set in the S27 Pro and Ultra, while the S27 and S27+ move up to M14 from the M13 panels that have been in use since the Galaxy S24. So the whole range improves, but the gap between the top two and the bottom two widens.
Privacy Display goes the same way. It was Ultra-only on the S26 and now covers both the Pro and the Ultra, which is the sort of feature that gets used to separate tiers rather than sell a phone on its own.
Samsung Wants 47 To 48 Million Panels
The annual target is 47 to 48 million units, roughly 10% above the low 40 million range Samsung aimed at with the S26 series. The Pro alone is expected to account for 2 to 3 million panels by the end of 2026 and another 4 to 5 million through 2027.
Worth noting that Samsung reportedly plans to carry over some S26 components to keep costs down, which trims what the extra model is actually worth to its suppliers. None of this is official, and Samsung hasn’t announced the S27 series at all yet.
