Tecno showed this thing at IFA in Berlin a week back, and now it’s sat on the desk for a longer look. Not a repeat of the show floor piece, more a chance to see what holds up once the trade show lighting is gone.
It’s a real Camon Slim underneath, with real Camon Slim parts
The phone isn’t a hollow mockup. It runs as a Camon Slim 5G, says so in About phone, and carries the same Dimensity 7300e chip and 6,000mAh battery as the retail model. The screen is a 6.78-inch 1.5K OLED at 144Hz. Tecno built the whole thing in house and claims it’s the first phone with a true 0mm display border, which for scale is next to an iPhone 17 Pro Max and its 1.36mm bezels.
The trick is a wrap-around glass layer, and it costs thickness
Tecno uses a dual-layer cover glass whose lower section curves around the midframe and hides the inactive edges of the panel, with the display module fitted from the back instead of the front and a hot-melt adhesive sealing the second glass layer on. All that stacking has to go somewhere. Put the concept next to the actual Camon Slim, which is 6.39mm thick, and the concept is noticeably chunkier. Slightly shorter too, and obviously the bezels are thinner, which is the entire point.
It behaves like the prototype it is
Setup was a fight the first time. Then it reset itself with no warning and the whole process had to be done again. The SIM tray is decorative, there’s no SIM slot behind it, and small black sections are still visible along the lower edge of the display when you look for them. There’s a punch-hole camera as well.
None of that is a knock. Concept phones are engineering proof, not products, and this one probably never reaches a shop. Tecno wanted to show the screen packaging works on a device you can hold, and it does. Zero-bezel phones went quiet for years, so it’s good to see somebody having a go again.
