iPhone 18 Leak Points to 12GB RAM Boost

Talk started on October 25, 2025, about what could come in the iPhone 18 next year. A site from South Korea called The Bell shared info first, but took it down fast. Places like MacRumors grabbed the details and spread them. Key point: the basic iPhone 18 could move up to 12GB of RAM from the 8GB in the regular iPhone 17.

What RAM Does

RAM is random access memory. It’s the space your phone uses to hold data for quick access when running apps or games. Apple makes iPhones work well even with less RAM, but 8GB can feel tight for big tasks. The Pro iPhone 17 has 12GB already, so it handles more stuff smoothly. For the standard model at 8GB, it falls short on games or AI work.

Details From the Leak

The report says Apple asked Samsung and Micron to make more LPDDR5X RAM chips. LPDDR5X means low-power double data rate 5X—it’s a type of memory that’s quick and doesn’t drain battery much. It uses a 6-channel setup, like having six paths for data to move faster without getting stuck.

Samsung and Micron don’t sell 8GB versions of this LPDDR5X. They start at 12GB, so Apple might have to go with that for the base iPhone 18. That would be a 50% increase from 8GB to 12GB, matching the Pro models.

Apple brings big computer games to iPhones, like Resident Evil games and Death Stranding. These need lots of RAM to run without problems. 8GB works okay now, but won’t for bigger games later. Apple Intelligence is their AI tools that run right on the phone for things like editing photos or talking to Siri better. More RAM helps keep it fast and private, no need to send data online.

It also helps with doing many things at once, like switching apps or working on videos without the phone slowing down.

Old Rumors and Warnings

We heard this before about the iPhone 17 getting 12GB, but it stayed at 8GB when it came out. So this leak might not happen. The post getting deleted could mean Apple wanted it quiet, or it was wrong. But with Apple pushing AI more, it fits that they’d add RAM to all models for better use. Still, too soon to know for sure—wait for more news.
