RedMagic has stopped hiding the 12 Pro+. The company put the whole design up on Weibo this week and opened pre-orders in China at the same time, with the launch event set for October 15 at 14:30 local time, which works out to 06:30 UTC.
The Transparent Back Stays, And The Camera Bump Is Gone
Anyone who has owned a RedMagic knows what the back looks like, and the 12 Pro+ keeps it. Transparent rear panel, RGB liquid cooling visible through the glass, and this time the panel is completely flat. The renders show the dual rear cameras sitting level with the back instead of raised, so the phone should lie flat on a desk without rocking, which matters more on a gaming phone than on most.
Three finishes are on offer: Transparent Dark Night, Transparent Ice Blue and Transparent Silver Wing.
Bezels Shrink To Under A Millimetre
The front is flat as well, with an under-display selfie camera and no hole in the screen. RedMagic has cut the black border from 1.25mm on the previous model to 0.96mm, so almost nothing sits between the edge of the glass and the picture.
Underneath is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, which RedMagic pairs with its own eSports chip and a separate high-refresh-rate display chip. Cooling is a new system the company calls ICE Magic, combining an active fan with built-in water cooling.
Lighter And Thinner Than The 11 Pro+
The company said back in September that the 12 Pro+ would be lighter, thinner, narrower and more rounded than its predecessor, and the renders back that up. Exact weight and thickness haven’t been published yet.
What is known from leaks rather than from RedMagic: an 8,400mAh battery with 120W wired and 80W wireless charging. Treat that as likely, not confirmed, until the event.
Pricing is the last unknown, and RedMagic usually announces its global launch plans shortly after the China event. The phone sells as the 12 Pro+ in China and as the 12 Pro globally, so the name on the box will change depending on where you buy.
