Thin phones normally ask you to give something up, and it’s usually the battery. Tecno announced the Camon Slim 5G on 7 September after showing it at IFA, and the phone is 6.39mm thick and 190 grams, with a 6,000mAh battery inside. Those two numbers don’t usually appear together.
What’s inside
A MediaTek Dimensity 7300e runs the show, with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. The screen is a 6.78-inch AMOLED at 1208×2644 and 144Hz, flat this time, unlike the curved panel on the 4G Camon Slim from June. Cameras are a 50MP main using Sony’s Lytia 700C sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 32MP selfie camera. Charging is 45W wired.
What Tecno gave up to get there
The 4G model charged at 60W, so the 5G version is slower to fill despite the bigger cell. Video recording caps out at 1080p 30fps with no 4K option, and it’s on Wi-Fi 5 rather than Wi-Fi 6. Worth knowing before the thinness sells you.
It’s tougher than it looks
Ratings cover IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K, and the phone meets MIL-STD-810H for shocks and drops. Tecno also fitted wet and oily hand touch recognition, so a damp screen still responds. Software is HiOS 16 on Android 16, with three major Android updates and five years of security patches promised, plus a TÜV SÜD certificate for 60 months of sustained performance.
Six finishes, and some are genuinely odd
- Neo Mondrian looks white until UV light hits it, then coloured grid blocks appear
- Gossamer White has a floating 3D butterfly wing effect
- Van Gogh Blue uses a gradient coating meant to look like a turning nebula
- Matisse Black is black fibreglass with fluorescent green detailing
- Burgundy Red is fibreglass with a matte, velvet-like finish
- Rebel Pink is a black body with pink accents
Price
Tecno hasn’t set a global price and says it will be announced market by market. Bangladesh got the first number: 59,999 taka, about $488, for 8GB and 256GB. Pakistan is expected in late September or October, with local estimates running Rs 68,999 to Rs 84,999, though Tecno hasn’t confirmed that.
