Google Extends OS Upgrade Support to Five Years for Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold

Interestingly, the Pixel Tablet is excluded from this list. According to Google’s support page, it will stick to the original plan of three years for OS updates and five years for security updates.

This extension means that Pixel 6 devices will now receive Android 16 and 17, while the Pixel 7 lineup and the Fold will get Android 18, expected to arrive in 2027. However, older Pixels from the 1 to 5 series won’t see any further updates, as their support has already ended.

Google was one of the first Android manufacturers to push for extended software support, setting a precedent that other major brands now follow. While the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 families are already promised seven years of updates, it’s nice to see Google improving its commitment to older devices. Hopefully, this becomes a standard practice across more Android brands in the future.
