Apple has officially retired the iPhone SE series, replacing it with the iPhone 16e. The rumors were spot on, and today, Apple unveiled this new entry-level model, marking a shift in its lineup.

The iPhone 16e is essentially a replacement for the iPhone 14, maintaining a similar design but dropping the ultrawide camera to keep costs lower. Despite that, it still brings some notable upgrades, including Apple Intelligence, a new chip, and iOS 18 right out of the box.

For the first time in this class, the iPhone 16e features a Super Retina XDR OLED display. It’s a 6.1-inch panel with a notch similar to MacBooks and older iPhones, offering a more modern look compared to the outdated SE design.

    Camera & Performance Upgrades

Apple has upgraded the camera system, equipping the 16e with a 48 MP main sensor. According to Apple, this is a 2-in-1 system offering lossless 2x zoom without sacrificing quality. The front camera is 12 MP and includes a 3D depth sensor for Face ID.

Powered by the Apple A18 chip, the iPhone 16e can record 4K 60FPS videos from both front and rear cameras. The Action Button also makes its way into this model, allowing for customizable shortcuts.

    Battery & Connectivity

As expected, Apple has ditched the Lightning port in favor of USB-C, complying with European regulations. Battery life also sees a big improvement—Apple claims the 16e lasts 6 hours longer than the iPhone 11 and 12 hours longer than previous SE models.

Running on iOS 18, the iPhone 16e supports Apple Intelligence features, just like its iPhone 16 siblings. Another major addition is Apple’s proprietary C1 modem, used for satellite connectivity, Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My iPhone via Satellite.

    Pricing & Availability

Pre-orders for the iPhone 16e begin on February 21, with an official release set for February 28. It will be available in three storage options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, all with 8GB RAM. Pricing starts at $599 (~PKR 167,000).
