Last month, Apple introduced the iPhone 16 series, and it came with some exciting new features like the Camera Control and Action button across all models, as well as upgraded chipsets. Now, the iPhone 17 lineup is still about a year away, but there are already plenty of rumors circulating. One of the most interesting ones comes from analyst Jeff Pu, who claims that the iPhone 17 Pro models will have a big camera upgrade.
According to Pu, both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to feature a 48-megapixel telephoto rear camera, which is a significant jump from the current 12-megapixel one in the iPhone 16 Pro series. Additionally, the front camera might see an upgrade too, moving to a 24-megapixel shooter. These camera improvements could enhance the photography experience, especially for those who rely heavily on their iPhones for capturing high-quality images.
On the performance side, it looks like the iPhone 17 will also get a boost with 12GB of RAM, compared to the 8GB in the iPhone 16 Pro. That extra memory could mean smoother multitasking and better performance for Apple’s AI features. There’s also talk about a smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, thanks to a new “metalens” for the Face ID system. As for the display sizes, they seem to be staying the same, with the Pro model having a 6.3-inch screen and the Pro Max at 6.9 inches. Both models are expected to run on the A19 Pro chip, using TSMC’s 3nm process.
Now, let’s talk about the rumored iPhone 17 Air, also referred to as the iPhone 17 Slim. This model is said to replace the current iPhone Plus and will likely have a 6.6-inch display, 8GB of RAM, and the Dynamic Island feature. What’s even more intriguing is the possibility of it being Apple’s first device with their own 5G modem. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to have a 48-megapixel rear camera and a 24-megapixel front camera, and its design might introduce a whole new look with an aluminum frame.
If Apple sticks to its usual schedule, the iPhone 17 series will probably be announced in September 2025. As always, more details will likely emerge as we get closer to that launch, so it’ll be interesting to see how these rumors develop.
