Oppo said the Reno 14 series would hit globally in July, but Japan’s getting the vanilla Reno 14 5G early—sales kick off July 17. They’ve also thrown in a cheaper option, the Reno 13A, to mix things up. Here’s the rundown on these new guys based on what’s out there.

Reno 14 5G: A Solid High-End Pick

This one’s got a 6.6-inch AMOLED screen with even bezels and a 120Hz refresh rate. Brightness hits 1200 nits, and it’s rocking a 1.5K resolution (2760 x 1256 pixels). The screen’s got Gorilla Glass 7i to keep it safe, and it’s got an IP69 rating, so water and dust don’t stand a chance. Pretty tough for a mid-ranger.

The selfie camera’s a standout—a 50MP autofocus job that’s great for face shots and video calls. It can even do 4K at 60fps, which is cool. On the back, you’ve got a 50MP main with OIS, a 50MP 3X telephoto with OIS, and an 8MP ultrawide. Should take decent pics, though the telephoto’s a nice bonus for zooming in.

It runs on a Dimensity 8350 chip with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The battery’s a hefty 6000mAh with 80W charging, so it’ll last and charge fast. Fingerprint’s in the screen, and it’s got WiFi 6. Colors are just Luminous Green and Opal White for now. Price and storage details drop on July 17—keep an eye out.

Reno 13A: Budget Done Right

This one feels like it’s taking over from the Reno 11A from last year. It’s got a 6.7-inch AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh and 1200 nits brightness. Resolution’s FHD+ (1080p), and it’s protected by AGC Dragontrail STAR 2 glass—should hold up okay.

Reno-13a

Fingerprint’s in the screen too, and the selfie camera’s a 32MP unit for clear shots. Back cameras are a 50MP OIS main, an 8MP ultrawide with a 120-degree view, and a 2MP macro—meh, that last one’s probably not worth much. Video goes to 4K at 30fps, which is fine.

Reno 13a

It’s powered by a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, a 4G chip clocking at 2.2GHz. Comes with UFS 3.1 storage and a 5800mAh battery with 45W charging. Pre-orders are up in Japan, and it’s going for about $330 (around PKR 107,000), which doesn’t sound bad. Colors are Charcoal Gray, Ice Blue, and Luminous Navy.

Quick Take

The Reno 14 5G landing early in Japan feels like Oppo testing the waters before the big global push. It’s got some solid specs to take on the competition. The 13A’s a decent budget pick, though that 4G thing might bug some people. Both have good cameras and tough builds, so they’re worth a look when prices come out next month.
