The Google Pixel 9 series smartphones unveiled last month came with new features exclusive to the lineup. These include Auto Frame and Reimagine, which could trickle down to older Pixel smartphones.
Some exclusive features from the Google Pixel 9 series are expected to be rolled out to older Pixel models, including the Pixel 6, 7, and 8 series. Among these features are Auto Frame, which adjusts framing during video calls, and Reimagine, an AI-driven photo editing tool that enhances or restores images. These features were discovered through an APK teardown of the Google Photos app, suggesting they may soon be available to older devices via a software update. However, hardware limitations might prevent some features from functioning optimally.
The Google Photos app for the 2024 Pixels, meaning the Pixel 9 series, includes code strings related to the Auto Frame and Reimagine features. These code strings are also found in the Google Photos app (v6.99) for the Pixels launched between 2021 and 2023, suggesting Google could bring these two features to the older Pixels launched between 2021 and 2023.
The publication says that the Google Photos app’s regular version for non-Pixel devices does not include the code strings for Auto Frame and Reimagine, meaning these either won’t come to non-Pixel devices or remain Pixel-exclusive for some time.
