OnePlus is set to release the Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro on December 26, as revealed through their listing on the Oppo Store in China. Louis Jie, the president of OnePlus China, confirmed that the Ace 5 will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, while the Ace 5 Pro takes it up a notch with the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Jie made a bold statement, saying the Ace 5’s performance will feel like a Gen 3.5 level upgrade, not just a step forward but a major overhaul for premium smartphones. That’s a big claim, and I’m curious to see how it holds up in real-world use.
One of the standout features of these phones is the new Glacier Battery Technology. It uses a thin Si/C battery design that’s supposed to increase battery capacity while keeping the phones slim. Details are still sparse, but it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out in terms of actual battery life.
Hardware-wise, both models are expected to share most specs. They’ll likely have a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display and a camera setup featuring a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP telephoto lens, and a 2MP macro shooter. The dimensions are also expected to be similar, though the Ace 5 Pro might have a slightly larger 6,100mAh battery compared to the standard model.
Overall, it looks like OnePlus is aiming to shake up the premium segment with these new releases. The Ace 5 series has a lot of promise, especially with the chipset and battery advancements, but I’ll hold off on final judgments until we see how it performs after launch.
