Samsung Announces S95C and S90C OLED TV Models – 8K Resolution

Samsung has announced the next generation of QDOLED televisions. It will be available in two versions and three sizes and use the OLED panel from Samsung Displays.

The S95C and S90C will join the 2023 range. This is the successor to the S95B last year, which received great reviews from customers and reviewers. While the new models will still be available in their 55-inch and 65 inch sizes, Samsung will offer a larger 77-inch model. This size is increasingly popular with buyers.

The next generation of quantum dots OLED panels from Samsung are featured on both models. They were also used in the Odyssey OLEDG9, which was launched yesterday. The panel claims a peak brightness of 2000 nits. However, this is achievable only on a 3% window. A more traditional 10% window test can achieve 1500 nits. Samsung panels use a standard RGB subpixel arrangement instead of the WRGB layout used in LG panels. This can lead to color saturation issues and overshoot artifacts. Samsung claims that the increased brightness has resulted in a lower power consumption due to its panel efficiency.

The main difference between the S95C & the S90C is the design. Due to Samsung’s One Connect Box, the S95C is slimmer. The S90C is larger due to all the connectors integrated.

Both TV models support a 144Hz refresh rate as well as the Samsung Gaming Hub feature. These OLED televisions are the first to receive AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro certification for gaming with variable refresh rates and HDR.

Aside from the QD-OLED models, Samsung also announced new LCD-based Neo QLED 8K and 4K models with mini-LED backlight and Samsung’s new Neural Quantum Processor with 14-bit processing and AI upscaling. There are also new Micro LED models for 2023, which range from 50-inch to 140-inch in size.

A Premiere 8K 8K variant, a ultra-short throw laser projection projector from the company, was also announced. It can project images up to 150 inches. A new model of the compact Freestyle projector is available for 2023. It features Smart EDGE Blending technology that allows you to place two Freestyle projectors together to create a large 21:9 image, without having them align manually. The Samsung Gaming Hub will be included in this model.
