Samsung is reportedly working on a new variant of its popular foldable smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. This special edition of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to feature a slightly reduced thickness compared to the standard model. The reduction in thickness is likely to make the device more comfortable to hold and carry, catering to users who prioritize a sleeker design without compromising on the device’s signature large foldable display.
While details about the specific changes in dimensions and weight are still scarce, the “Slim” version is anticipated to retain the core features of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, including its high-resolution display, advanced camera system and powerful performance capabilities. The decision to launch a slimmer variant could be aimed at enhancing the appeal of foldable smartphones to a broader audience, particularly those who might have been deterred by the bulkier nature of previous models.
Samsung’s move to offer a “Slim” edition aligns with the ongoing trend in the smartphone industry of providing multiple variants of flagship devices to meet diverse consumer preferences. The release date and pricing details for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim are not yet confirmed, but it is expected to be marketed as a premium alternative to the standard version, potentially with a higher price tag.
The information comes from seasoned tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks). In a since-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), the tipster suggested that Samsung’s upcoming smartphone could launch as “Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition” instead of featuring the ‘Slim’ moniker. The reason? It may not be as thin as previously anticipated.
As per Blass, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition will have a thickness of 10.6mm when folded – a decrease of just 1.5mm compared to the standard Z Fold 6 model. Additionally, it is considered 4.9mm thin when unfolded compared to its predecessor’s 5.6mm thickness, translating into a difference of just 0.7mm. Previous reports suggested that Samsung reduced the thickness of the purported foldable smartphone by removing the digitizer – a crucial component required for the function of the bundled S-Pen.
