Tecno mostly targets countries in need that is the reason it takes a different strategy for smartphones than the major brands. The Camon series has large screens and batteries with a great camera experience and a satisfying performance for low-cost. The cost is even lower because of pre-installed partners applications and the baked-in advertisements within the interface. To some users, it could be a problem while for others, it’s the tradeoff they’d love to take.

Its Tecno Camon 18 Premier is certainly not ideal. The Helio G96 chip is fine however, gaming could require some modifications to your graphics if you’re looking for a smooth experience. Even if the display supports up to 120fps however, we doubt that any game will be able to do it.
The only thing we’re missing is stereo speakers, as well as some kind of protection from elements. Basic protection against splashes would be great. However, the camera may have absorbed some of the budget therefore we’ll try not to put these shortcomings against the Premier.

Quality of design, construction and handling
Tecno Camon 18 Premium might have not been a showpiece but it definitely seems like one. The design is unique because of a couple of factors.
First, it’s a dual-glass build with AGC-made flat glass sheets on both sides. The rear panel has this cool silky matte finish, which may be allowing fingerprints to thrive, but it is also pleasant on touch and premium-looking when clean.
The camera rectangle is also flat and made of glass, while the frame is slightly curved and made of plastic. Some budget cuts had to be made, and in most cases, the frame and the chassis take the hit.
This means that the Camon 18 Premiere is good-looking and built well We also noticed another area that is incredibly attentive to the finer details that mid-ranges usually fail to achieve in harmony. It’s true that one thing we noticed is the perfectly-centered front camera inside the punch-hole on the screen. Although we don’t often criticize this because it’s about budgetary constraints but it’s something that can rub us wrong.
Another place where symmetry is often absent on budget phones – the cutouts for ports and speaker(s) around the frame. The Camon 18 Premiere has a perfectly centered audio jack, mouthpiece, USB port and speaker holes at the bottom, and we are happy that Tecno made the extra effort.
One thing that would have made the Camon 18 Premier build top-notch is some sort of ingress protection. Alas, there is no such thing on the Premier, not even splash resistance or water-repellent coating.
Let’s take a look at both sides today and find out what’s obvious and what’s not.
Its 6.7-inch AMOLED screen is at the front. It features an extended resolution of 1080p, has a the dynamic 120Hz refresh rate and also has a punch-hole to accommodate the brand new 32MP selfie camera. As we said, the camera is perfectly placed in the punch hole.
The earpiece is above the screen, but what you cannot see is the LED flash next to it. It’s quite thin yet powerful enough to make a difference at night.

In the end of the day we really enjoyed our time on our Tecno Camon 18 Prime. It’s a phone that has a solid construction and simple design. Dual-tempered glass is always nice to have. The one thing we did not like is the absence of any kind of protection against ingress. The frame made of plastic could have been improved with a matte finishes, as does on the rear, however we can’t get everything could we?
Overall, we think people will like the Camon 18 Premier, and if handling issues are present, the supplied case should solve most, if not all of them.
