Xiaomi Redmi A5 Emerges on FCC as Poco C71 with Shared Specs

Xiaomi is gearing up to release its next ultra-affordable smartphone, the Redmi A5. I’ve gathered that the device is already in the testing phase, and the FCC has given it the green light for a U.S. release. Before this approval, the global version of the Redmi A5 with NFC popped up on the IMEI database, so it’s clear that the phone will launch in several regions. Just a few hours ago, the FCC signed off on the model code 25028RN03L. While the documentation didn’t reveal much, one thing is certain: the Redmi A5 will support 5G. As a budget-friendly option, it will feature dual-band WiFi 5 and standard Bluetooth.

The Redmi A5 is expected to ship with Android 15, running Xiaomi’s updated Hyper OS 2.0. Although storage details usually aren’t included in FCC filings, this time we got a glimpse. The A5 will come in four variants: 3GB/64GB, 4GB/64GB, 4GB/128GB, and 6GB/128GB.

Interestingly, XiaomiTime speculates that the Redmi A5 might be released as the Poco C71 in some markets. This wouldn’t be surprising since Xiaomi often rebrands its devices for different regions. The Redmi A5 and Poco C71 seem to be essentially the same phone, as their model numbers are quite similar. For instance, the global Poco C71 is labeled 25028PC03G, while the Latin American version is 25028PC03L. In comparison, the Redmi A5 for the global market is 25028RN03G, and the U.S. version is 25028RN03L. The differences in the “PC” and “RN” extensions suggest the same hardware, just under different names.

As of now, there’s no official word on the exact launch dates for either device. But with all these details coming to light, it seems like an official announcement from Xiaomi isn’t too far off.
