Samsung has brought back its old trend of making devices slimmer, a move that seemed to fade away with the first Galaxy Ultra. Lately, however, we’ve seen a shift in that direction again with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Fold Special Edition. Now, rumors suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be even slimmer—but it comes with its own set of trade-offs.

One of the biggest concerns from leaks is that the S Pen will lose some features on the Z Fold 7. While it’s unclear exactly which features will be affected, this decision is likely tied to making the device as thin as possible. The Z Fold series has never had a built-in slot for the S Pen, and users have to buy a special case to carry it. If these rumors are accurate, it could make the situation even more inconvenient for S Pen users.

We’ll have to wait for more details to confirm this, but it’s clear that Samsung is focused on reducing the thickness of its foldable lineup. The Z Fold Special Edition, which was only released in China and Korea, set a new benchmark for thin folding devices. It measured just 4.9mm when unfolded, and the Z Fold 7 is rumored to be even slimmer.

This shift isn’t surprising given Samsung’s recent moves. The Galaxy S25 Ultra sacrificed S Pen Bluetooth functionality to drop from 8.6mm to 8.2mm, and the Fold 7 might be making a similar trade-off. Since it already lacks an S Pen holster, any additional downgrade to the stylus functionality could be a disappointment for fans of the feature.

For now, we’ll be keeping an eye on more leaks and updates. It’s clear that Samsung is fully committed to the race for slimmer devices, and the Z Fold 7 might just be the thinnest yet. Whether that’s a good thing or a step too far remains to be seen.
