  2. When Does the Final Version Ship?

Google just pushed out the Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2.1 update to Pixel devices, but that’s not the interesting bit. Alongside that update, the company confirmed on Reddit that the first Android 17 beta isn’t far off either.

Android 17 Beta 1 will bring the usual round of bug fixes along with performance and stability improvements. Nothing flashy announced yet — this is a first beta, after all. For what it’s worth, the Android 17 update has been floating around internally under the codename “Cinnamon Bun,” which leaked out in reports last year.

Already on the Beta Program? You Don’t Need to Do Anything

If you’re enrolled in Android Beta, the update will land on your device automatically once Google flips the switch. No action required on your end.

But if you’d rather not jump onto Android 17 this early, you need to be a bit careful about how you handle it. Here’s the deal:

Opt out of the beta program now, before the Android 17 beta arrives. You’ll see an update labelled “Downgrade” — ignore it completely. Just sit tight and wait for the stable public release of Android 16 QPR3 instead. That way you keep your data intact and skip the beta entirely.

If you have installed the Android 17 beta and then decide it’s not for you, things become a little tricky. Short version: You will not be able to leave the beta without wiping your device until the full cycle of betas comes to an end, something Google says should occur around June.

When Does the Final Version Ship?

The stable Android 17 release is pencilled in for Q2 2026. Google says it’ll come with new features, gaming improvements, and a broader set of under-the-hood changes — though specifics are thin on the ground right now. Expect more details to trickle out as we move through the beta stages.
