Oppo’s teleconverter has been a Find X exclusive since it arrived, and Find X phones cost flagship money. That looks like it might change.
The rumour says the Reno17 is being tested with teleconverter support
Tipster Smart Pikachu reports that Oppo is evaluating whether to open up telephoto extender support to the Reno17 family, a feature currently restricted to the premium Find X line. Nothing is confirmed, and Oppo hasn’t said a word about it.
A teleconverter is a physical lens that clips onto the back of the phone
It isn’t software. The accessory attaches over the existing telephoto camera and multiplies the focal length using real glass, so you get extra reach without the mushy detail that digital zoom leaves behind. Oppo sells the current version as a Hasselblad-branded kit, which mounts using a dedicated magnetic case.

That’s the camera an extender would sit on top of. On the Find X9, the same setup with the teleconverter fitted pushes reach far beyond what the phone manages alone, though the accessory weighs about 225g and costs roughly three stops of light, so it’s a bright-conditions tool more than a gig-photography one, whatever the marketing says.

Oppo apparently tested a 1:1 square front camera for the Reno17 and may have already scrapped it. Worth holding loosely, since that particular feature has also been linked to the Reno18 elsewhere.
Prices are expected to go up, and the teleconverter may be the reason
Smart Pikachu ties the two together directly: the accessory support could be part of a broader plan to raise Reno17 pricing. That’s the part buyers should watch. Mid-range Oppo phones have been creeping upmarket for a while, and adding a flagship accessory feature gives the company an argument for charging more.
Launch should land around November
Oppo announced the Reno16 in China in May, and the series usually runs on a six-month cycle. More concrete Reno17 details are expected once the Find X10 series launches, which is close, since one Find X10 model has already cleared 3C certification in China.
