Apple dropped iOS 26.2.1 and iPadOS 26.2.1 today. Small version number bump, but there’s actually a reason to care about this one.
The update adds support for Apple’s second-generation AirTag, which was also announced today. The new tracker packs a redesigned UWB chip that extends Precision Finding range by 50% – so that directional arrow guiding you to your lost keys kicks in from much further away than before. There’s also an upgraded Bluetooth chip with better range and a speaker that’s 50% louder. Handy when your AirTag is wedged behind the couch.

You’ll need this update to use the new AirTag at all. Without it, your iPhone or iPad won’t recognize the second-gen hardware.
Apple’s release notes also mention “bug fixes” without getting specific. Standard practice.
To update: Settings > General > Software Update. Should be available now on any device running iOS 26 or iPadOS 26.
