The iPhone 16 series is set to offer a major charging upgrade, supporting up to 45W wired charging via USB-C across all models, including the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. This is a significant improvement over the iPhone 15 series, which was limited to around 29W. With this update, the iPhone 16 can charge roughly 50% faster, allowing users to juice up their devices more quickly when using a compatible charger.
Apple tends to omit detailed specifications for its iPhones and instead uses arbitrary terms for the most part. That includes wired charging speeds where the new iPhone 16 series, like their predecessors, are quoted to offer a 50% charge in 30 minutes when using Apple’s official 20W USB-C power adapter.
That’s all that Apple is saying on its official specs page, but a series of certifications from China confirms that Apple has dramatically upped the charging speed potential on the iPhone 16 series – peaking at 45W.
As per the China Quality Certification Centre (CQC), iPhone 16 (A3288), iPhone 16 Plus (A3291), iPhone 16 Pro (A3294), and iPhone 16 Pro Max (A3297) all support charging at 5-15 volts and 3 amps. This means up to 45W peak charging speeds which would be a notable improvement over the outgoing iPhone 15 series devices which topped out at 27-29W.
In addition to the wired charging boost, Apple has also improved wireless MagSafe charging speeds from 15W to 25W, making the wireless experience faster as well.
