Apple opened iPhone Duo pre-orders on Friday at 5am Pacific, and by mid-morning the online store had stopped promising October. Anyone ordering the iPhone Duo now is being quoted a January 22 delivery date, three months after the October 23 launch the first buyers are still getting.
January 22 Shows Up In Every Country Checked
The same date came back across the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, India, Australia, New Zealand and China. Switching between Star White and Night Sky didn’t change it, and neither did moving between storage sizes.
That last part is the unusual bit. With most iPhone launches the expensive top storage tiers stay available longer, because fewer people pay for them, but the $3,199 2TB model is backed up to January just like the $1,999 base version. When even the most expensive configuration has gone, the shortage is in the phone itself rather than in any one variant.
The Shortage Was Predicted Back In September
Supply has been the worry since the Duo was announced on September 9. Jeff Pu at GF Securities cut his 2026 forecast in a mid-September note, blaming the hinge, which is harder to produce at volume than anything else in the phone.
- Jeff Pu’s 2026 iPhone Duo estimate: 6 million units, down from 7 million
- iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max over the same period: around 72 million
- Apple’s reported stocking target: 6 to 8 million units
So Apple will build roughly one Duo for every twelve Pro models this year, and it’s selling into a launch covering more than 70 countries at once.
Your Options If You Missed The First Wave
Apple’s own stores are the best remaining chance for an October handset. The online pickup option currently says to check back on October 24, so walk-in stock may appear once the launch-day orders have been handed over. Carriers and third-party retailers have their own allocations too, separate from Apple’s online stock, and those don’t always run on the same dates.
There’s also a second rollout starting October 30 for countries not in the first group. Whether that brings any extra units into the first-wave markets hasn’t been said, and given the numbers above, it seems unlikely.
Anyone who placed an order through the Get Ready tool before Friday morning should still see October 23 on their confirmation. Everyone else is waiting until the new year.
