Oppo Promises 4 OS Updates, For Selected 2023 flagships

ColorOS 13.3 was released on August 18, and Oppo’s zealous efforts to bring the new version to existing phones have led to the fastest rollout of any ColorOS version. However, this announcement is accompanied by another exciting news: Oppo will expand the software’s support to certain flagship phones beginning in 2023.

This plan will provide four OS updates as well as five years’ worth of security patches for certain top models. This is similar to the promise OnePlus announced earlier in the year. Samsung was the first to announce this schedule of updates and extended it to its 2021 flagships. Google remains (embarrassingly) slowing down with just three OS updates and five years’ worth of patching.

In the case of the current OS version, ColorOS 13 has been released to 33 Oppo models across the world, more than any prior version (50% higher than ColorOS 12) For examples, This has enabled it to reach the number of users ColorOS 12 did during the initial four months following its launch (October 11 to February 11 for v12 and August 18 through December 18 for the v13 version).

This makes v13 the most significant and rapid update rollout in ColorOS history. Thank you to Oppo, and congratulations on the extended software support. Hopefully, it will force other companies to go beyond the typical two or three OS update promises.
