Samsung plans to introduce premium AI features for Galaxy devices, available via subscription starting 2025

The launch of the Galaxy Tab S10 series and the Galaxy S24 FE last week caught my attention, especially with how heavily Samsung pushed its Galaxy AI suite. Right now, all of these AI features are available for free, but Samsung is already hinting that it might not stay that way for long. In their press release, there’s a footnote mentioning that some AI features may come with fees after 2025.

This doesn’t come as a shock, given Samsung’s earlier confirmation that AI features would no longer be free after 2025. Based on that, I wouldn’t be shocked if we see certain features behind a paywall starting next year. Insiders suggest Samsung is looking at subscription models or one-time payments for some of these more advanced AI tools. Features like upgraded voice assistants, AI-based editing tools for photos and videos, and real-time language translation could be among the things users might need to pay for.

I see this as part of Samsung’s larger plan to monetize their growing AI ecosystem. As AI becomes more integrated into devices, maintaining and upgrading these tools is probably getting more expensive, so charging for certain features makes sense from a business standpoint. It’s similar to what other tech companies are doing, with basic AI features being free and more premium options available for a fee.

For now, Samsung hasn’t given us all the details about what will be behind the paywall, but I’m guessing these premium features will be optional. That way, users can choose whether they want to pay for extra AI power or stick with the free version. This could be a trendsetter for the industry, and I’ll be keeping an eye on how Samsung handles it as 2025 gets closer.
