Vivo has introduced the Y200+, adding yet another device to its extensive and sometimes perplexing Yxxx lineup. This family has seen numerous iterations, with the Y100 series featuring six models, and now the Y200 series surpassing that with its eighth member, the Y200+.
At first glance, the Y200+ appears to be an update to the Y100+, but on closer inspection, it’s essentially the same device, with some areas even taking a step back in terms of specs. It’s a move that leaves me wondering about the rationale behind this launch.
The Y200+ comes with a 6.68-inch LCD display at 720×1608 resolution, maintaining the 120 Hz refresh rate from its predecessor. It shares the same 6,000 mAh battery with 44W wired charging, and the rear camera setup remains unchanged with a 50 MP main sensor paired with a 2 MP secondary shooter. However, the selfie camera drops from 8 MP on the Y100+ to just 5 MP on the Y200+, which feels like a downgrade. The phone retains its IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance, 7.99 mm thickness, and 199g weight.
Design-wise, there’s a slight change in the rear panel—perhaps this is the main selling point for this release. Another notable difference is the claim of 300% louder speakers, which could appeal to users prioritizing audio quality. The device comes with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and runs Origin OS 4, signaling its focus on the Chinese market. Pricing starts at CNY 1,199 (approximately $150 or €145).
In the end, while the Y200+ brings minor updates and tweaks, it doesn’t present enough of an upgrade over the Y100+ to truly stand out. Still, for those in China looking for a device in this price range, it might be worth considering.
