Tecno has officially launched HiOS 15, the newest version of its Android software. The update focuses on refining the user interface, boosting performance, and integrating a broad set of AI-driven tools aimed at enhancing usability across daily tasks.
Starting with the design changes, HiOS 15 brings a cleaner, more minimal interface. Tecno has reduced pre-installed apps by 40%, which should make the OS feel lighter out of the box. There are also new animations and transitions, along with AI-generated wallpapers and a refreshed set of minimal icons. App switching is now 15% faster, contributing to a smoother user experience.
Performance updates in HiOS 15 are centered around memory and multitasking. Features like MemFusion 3.0 and memory defragmentation optimize memory usage and storage efficiency. A new Sensory Scheduling 2.0 tool allows smoother multitasking across up to 25 apps, while a Blank Data mode helps keep user information private by masking data from apps.
A notable addition is the wireless mic mode, which lets the phone act as a wireless microphone when paired with compatible speakers — a practical addition for content creators and presentations.
AI plays a major role in this version. New tools include:
- AI Call Assistant, which offers real-time translation, transcription, and call summaries, even for WhatsApp calls.
- AI Auto Answer, for picking up calls and generating a summary when the user is unavailable.
- AI Voiceprint Noise Suppression, designed to remove background noise.
- AI Screen Awareness, offering context-based actions for on-screen content.
- AI Writing & Document Assistant, to help streamline text input and document tasks.
On the visual side, Tecno has added:
- AI Eraser 2.0 and Image Extender, for photo editing and background manipulation.
- AI Wallpaper Generator, to create custom backgrounds.
- AI Sharpness Plus and AI Blurring, the latter helping blur sensitive content in screenshots.
Tecno has also placed focus on regional customization. For the Indian market, HiOS 15 integrates with local AI models like Sarvam AI for better language handling. The built-in assistant, Ella AI, already supports Hindi and is expected to add Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, and Marathi by the end of the year.
HiOS 15 seems like a strategic step for Tecno — keeping the interface minimal while backing it with meaningful AI enhancements. The move also reinforces its investment in localized software experiences, especially in emerging markets.
