Leak: Xiaomi 12 will have a triple 50MP camera with a 5-x periscope

In the past three years, Xiaomi has seen a lot of success with various 108MP sensors. This includes featuring one on the Mi 11 as well as the Mix 4. The ultra-wide and telephoto modules used low resolution sensors, usually in the 8-13MP range.

According to Digital Chat Station leak, the company will use a triple 50MP setup for the Xiaomi 12th generation. This will mean that the main camera has 50MP, ultrawide 50MP and telephoto 50MP.

The last one will use a 5x magnifying glass. Xiaomi claims to have a 10x working periscope. However, that focal length is not practical. The 5x lens combined with a high resolution sensor will provide smooth, high-quality zoom in the 5x-10x range.

Rumours had previously mentioned that Samsung would soon release a 200MP sensor, but this will likely be reserved for the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. The 12-series warns is still in its design verification phase, so final hardware details could be different.

Recently, rival ZTE unveiled the Axon 30 Ultra with a triple 64 MP camera, though the periscope on this one featured only an 8MP sensor (the third 64MP camera had a 35 mm lens, which offered minimal optical zoom). High resolution sensors are very rare. Xiaomi’s Mi 11 Ultra has one (48MP), along with a 50MP main camera and 48MP ultrawide.

The Xiaomi 12 will also be equipped with an LTPO AMOLED screen that has an adaptive refresh rate of between 1-120 Hz and 2160 Hz. The phones will also be powered by the Snapdragon 898 chipset and LPDDR5X RAM.
