Hey everyone! Today I want to talk about something interesting and latest from Google. As Google recently announced for the roll out of AI overviews for users above the age of 18 in the countries and territories below:

Americas

Antigua and Barbuda Argentina Bahamas Barbados Belize Bolivia Brazil Canada Chile Colombia Costa Rica Dominica Dominican Republic Ecuador El Salvador Grenada Guatemala GuyanaHaiti Honduras Jamaica Mexico Nicaragua Panama Paraguay Peru Puerto Rico Saint Kitts and Nevis Saint Lucia Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Suriname Trinidad and Tobago U.S. Virgin Islands United States Uruguay Venezuela

Asia-Pacific

American Samoa Antarctica Australia Bangladesh Bhutan Brunei Cambodia Cook Islands Fiji Guam India Indonesia Japan Kiribati Kyrgyzstan Laos Malaysia Maldives Marshall Islands Micronesia Mongolia Myanmar Nauru NepalNew Zealand Niue Northern Mariana Islands Pakistan Palau Papua New Guinea Philippines Samoa Singapore Solomon Islands Sri Lanka Taiwan Tajikistan Thailand Timor-Leste Tokelau Tonga Turkmenistan Tuvalu United States Minor Outlying Islands Uzbekistan Vanuatu Vietnam

Europe, the Middle East & Africa

Angola Benin Botswana Burkina Faso Burundi Cameroon Cape Verde Central African Republic Chad Comoros Congo (DRC) Congo (Republic) Côte d’Ivoire Equatorial Guinea Eritrea Eswatini Ethiopia Gabon Gambia Ghana Guinea Guinea-Bissau Kenya LesothoLiberia Madagascar Malawi Mali Mauritius Mozambique Namibia Niger Nigeria Rwanda São Tomé and Príncipe Senegal Seychelles Sierra Leone Somalia South Africa South Sudan Tanzania Togo Uganda United Kingdom Western Sahara Zambia Zimbabwe

I wanted to share my experience what I noticed while testing Google’s new AI search summaries. Google just announced they’re expanding these AI-powered overviews to more than 100 countries, so I decided to test it out myself using different locations.

What I Did to Test This

I ran a simple test using the search query “How many countries are in the world?” But here’s the interesting part – I checked this from three different locations:

  1. From my Indian system (using RDP)
  2. From my local Pakistani connection
  3. From a US-based RDP

What I Found Out (The Results Were Pretty Different!)

Testing from India

Testing from India

When I searched from my Indian system, I didn’t get any AI overview at all. Instead, I just saw the regular rich snippet that we’re all used to – you know, those quick answer boxes that pull info directly from websites.

Testing from Pakistan

Testing from Pakistan

Using my local Pakistani internet connection, the results were pretty much the same as India. I got the regular rich snippet format, nothing fancy or AI-powered yet.

Testing from the US

Testing from the US

Now this is where things got interesting! When I used my US-based RDP, boom – there it was! The AI overview showed up in the side panel, and it was totally different from what I saw in the other locations.

Here’s something really important I noticed – even though Google announced the rollout to 100+ countries, it’s definitely not happening all at once. From my testing, it looks like they’re doing this step by step, region by region. I couldn’t see the AI overviews in India or Pakistan yet, which tells me Google is probably being careful with the rollout.

Why might they do it this way? My guess is they’re collecting feedback and watching how users interact with these AI summaries in different regions. This kind of gradual rollout makes sense because it lets them:

  • Fix any issues before going fully global
  • Adjust the system based on how people are using it
  • Make sure it works well with different languages and local search behaviors
  • Handle the massive amount of processing power needed for these AI features

So if you’re not seeing AI overviews in your country yet, don’t worry – they’re probably coming soon! It’s just part of Google’s careful approach to rolling out such a big change.

What’s Really Changing Here?

The biggest change I noticed is pretty important for both users and content creators. Those top-ranking websites that used to create rich snippets? Their content is now being used differently. Instead of showing up in the traditional rich snippet box, their information is being pulled into these new AI overviews in the side panel.

What This Means for Everyone

For Regular Users

  • Getting answers is becoming easier
  • Information is more organized and summarized
  • Less clicking around different websites
  • Cleaner search experience overall

For Content Creators (The Tricky Part)

  • Your content might show up in AI summaries instead of rich snippets
  • This could mean fewer direct clicks to your website
  • But your content is still being used and valued
  • Need to think about how to adapt to this change

My Thoughts on This Change

Look, as someone who creates content, I can see both sides here. Yes, it’s great that users can get information faster and easier. The AI summaries are pretty neat and they organize information well. But I also get why some content creators might be worried.

When your content gets used in these AI overviews, you might not get as many people actually clicking through to your site. That’s just the reality. Before, when your site showed up in a rich snippet, people would often click to read more. Now, they might just read the AI summary and move on.

What’s Next?

This rollout to 100+ countries is just the beginning. I think we’re going to see:

  • More features being added to these AI summaries
  • Different ways content gets displayed
  • Maybe new opportunities for content creators to stand out
  • Possible changes in how we need to format our content

Bottom Line

The search game is changing, folks. Google’s AI summaries are here to stay, and they’re spreading globally. For users, this is mostly good news – easier access to information. For content creators like us, it means we need to stay on our toes and maybe think about new ways to make our content valuable beyond just the basic information that AI can summarize.

Keep in mind that this rollout is still happening, so you might not see these AI overviews in your country yet. If you’re curious, try using a VPN or RDP from different locations like I did – you might see different results depending on where you’re searching from.

Have you noticed these AI summaries in your searches yet? I’d love to hear about your experience with them!
