Today at WWDC Apple revealed the latest version of its OSes which power its phones, tablets, computers and watches. Here’s a list of which currently running devices will be upgraded to the latest version.
iOS 16
iOS 16. includes widgets on your lock screen. It also enhances notifications, and adds new features to messages, Apple Wallet support for managing digital IDs, and Pay Later. Also, there’s an Always On Display which will only be available on next-generation phones.
iOS 16 supports the iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone X from 2017 and subsequent models. This means that older models running version 15 – the iPhone 6s (from 2015), iPhone 7, the original SE and the iPod touch (7th generation) are not supported.
iPadOS 16
iPadOS 16. enhanced multitasking capabilities, as well as support external displays on M1-powered iPads. In addition, there are new tools for collaboration that work with Mail and Safari as well as the Weather app is now available on the tablets of Apple, as well as other enhancements.
The new version is compatible with every iPad Pro version, iPad Airs (3rd generation and later) as well as the vanilla iPad (5th generation and later) as well as iPad mini (5th generation and up). In comparison with iPadOS 15, the 15 version has no functionality for iPad Air 2 (from 2014 almost 8 years old today) as well as iPad mini 4 (2015).
watchOS 9
Be aware the fact that watchOS 9.0 requires a device running iOS 16 which means that even if you own the most recent Apple Watch, you also require an iPhone 8/X, or later. For the watches, the Apple Watch Series 4 and older models are compatible.
