New Chip Powering the Device

Nothing has confirmed the Nothing Phone (3) will use a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor. It’s not the flagship chip everyone hoped for, but it still stands out as one of the top chips available. Akis Evangelidis, Nothing’s co-founder, explained why they went with this over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and the choice has some solid reasoning behind it.

Performance Boost Details

Based on Evangelidis’ recent X post, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 delivers a big upgrade. The GPU jumps by almost 88%, nearly doubling the graphics speed of the Nothing Phone (2). The CPU gets a 33% increase, and the NPU sees a 125% boost for AI tasks. When asked about skipping the 8 Gen 3, Evangelidis pointed out its weaker GPU and NPU, along with poor connectivity and ISP. This suggests Nothing prioritized performance where it counts.

Long-Term Software Support

The 8s Gen 4 also brings better software backing. It offers five years of OS updates and seven years of security patches by default, compared to the 8 Gen 3’s four years for both. The Nothing Phone (3) is likely to follow suit with seven years of OS support, up from the Phone (2)’s three major updates, which was standard then. The new model adds two extra years, showing a focus on keeping the phone relevant longer.

Launch Date and Pricing Hints

The official launch is set for July 1, 2025, with the chip reveal coming in the past few days. Teasers are picking up speed, promising more details soon. Nothing’s CEO hinted in a video that the price might land around 800 pounds, a figure typical for flagship phones. This could signal a push to market the Phone (3) as a high-end device. Exact pricing and availability will come clear at the launch, so stay tuned.
