Samsung announces the Exynos 1480, its latest flagship chipset with cutting-edge technology.

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy A55, but details about its Exynos 1480 chipset were initially sparse. Finally, we have the full breakdown of the 4nm EUV Exynos 1480, and it’s packing some solid upgrades.

One of the big draws here is the Xclipse 530 GPU, based on AMD’s RDNA architecture—an impressive addition for a midrange chip. Samsung claims it’s delivering a 53% boost in GPU performance over last year’s Exynos 1380. There’s also support for Variable Rate Shading (VRS) and Super Resolution upscaling, which should bring visual enhancements in graphics-heavy tasks and gaming.

In terms of CPU, Samsung went with a new setup: the Exynos 1480 has four Cortex-A78 cores at 2.75 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz. That’s a step up from the Exynos 1380, where the Cortex-A78 cores were clocked at 2.4 GHz.

On the connectivity side, the 1480 adds faster 5G speeds and now supports Wi-Fi 6E, which will be a nice boost for data-heavy tasks. Camera-wise, it’s built to handle up to a 200MP single camera or a dual 32MP setup, while supporting up to 4K video at 60fps.

For now, the Galaxy A55 is the only device using the Exynos 1480, and Samsung hasn’t indicated when it might roll out to other models. All in all, it seems like a solid update that could make the Galaxy A55 a good option for anyone looking for a capable midrange phone with some flagship-level tech under the hood.
