Earlier today, vivo quietly unveiled the Y19s, and while it shares part of its name with the older Y19 from 2019, it’s more of a successor to the Y17s from last year. It’s not a massive upgrade but does bring a few key improvements that caught my eye—like the sturdier design, more powerful stereo speakers, and a larger 5,500mAh battery.
One of the first things I noticed is the slightly bigger 6.68” display, which now features a 90Hz refresh rate, although it still only offers HD+ resolution. In bright environments, it can hit 1,000 nits, which is decent. The front camera is now housed in a punch-hole, but unfortunately, the resolution has dropped to just 5MP, which might disappoint selfie lovers.
The rear camera setup hasn’t changed much, sticking with a 50MP main sensor and a secondary “helper” camera. But there’s a cool addition—a flashy RGB LED ring around the camera module that lights up for notifications or music. It’s a fun touch, even if a bit gimmicky.
A nice surprise is the stereo speaker setup, which can apparently be cranked up to 300% volume. It sounds over the top, but hey, it could be useful in noisy settings. Plus, vivo kept the 3.5mm headphone jack, a small but appreciated detail.
Another standout feature is its durability. The Y19s is drop-resistant and comes with an IP64 rating for dust and basic water resistance. It’s also MIL-STD-810H compliant, meaning it can handle rough conditions. The battery, which has a generous 5,500mAh capacity, is built to last, retaining 80% capacity even after 4 years of daily charges. However, charging at just 15W might test your patience.
Performance-wise, the Y19s is powered by the Unisoc T612 chipset—nothing flashy, just a basic 4G processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It’s not built for gaming, but should handle everyday tasks well enough. It ships with FuntouchOS 14 based on Android 14.
As of now, pricing details haven’t been released, but given the specs, it’s likely to fall in the budget category. If you’re looking for a durable phone with a few playful features, the vivo Y19s might be worth watching.
