Huawei’s latest foldable, the Mate X6, is officially going global after its initial launch in China a couple of weeks ago. It takes over from last year’s Mate X5, which was exclusive to China, and it brings noticeable upgrades like improved cameras and a larger battery.
Design and Build
The Mate X6 comes in Nebula Gray, Nebula Red, and Black, maintaining a sleek profile. Measuring just 4.6mm in thickness when unfolded, and 9.9mm when folded, this device boasts an impressively slim design. It also features an IPX8 water resistance rating, making it durable for everyday use.
Display
The foldable boasts a 7.93-inch LTPO OLED main screen with a resolution of 2440 x 2240 pixels and a peak brightness of 1,800 nits. Its 6.45-inch cover screen also uses LTPO OLED technology with FHD+ resolution and an impressive 2,500 nits of brightness. Both screens are protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass, ensuring durability.
Camera System
Huawei has packed some serious hardware into the camera setup:
- 50MP main camera with an RYYB sensor and variable aperture (f/1.4-f/4.0).
- 48MP periscope telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom and a super macro mode.
- 40MP ultrawide camera with autofocus.
The device also features an Ultra Chroma Camera that captures 1.5 million spectral channels, promising vibrant and true-to-life colors.
Performance
The chipset is where things get a bit tricky due to geopolitical restrictions. While Huawei hasn’t confirmed the details, reports suggest the Mate X6 runs on the in-house Kirin 9020 chipset, featuring a 12-core CPU and a GPU clocked at 840 MHz. This is the same chip rumored to power Huawei’s Mate 70 series.
Battery and Charging
Powering the Mate X6 is a 5,110mAh silicon-carbon battery, which supports:
- 66W wired charging
- 50W wireless charging
- 7.5W reverse wireless charging
Software and Price
Out of the box, the Mate X6 runs on EMUI 15. The Huawei Mate X6 will be available globally in a single variant, featuring 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, priced at €1,999. Deliveries commence on January 6.
Huawei has packed the Mate X6 with impressive features, making it a serious contender in the foldable market. The durability, display quality, and camera capabilities stand out, but the chipset details still leave room for curiosity. For foldable enthusiasts, this could be one to watch.
