Honor’s Blade Battery Packs 7,000+ mAh Into Future Foldables

The Honor Magic V6 dropped as one of the first major announcements out of this year’s MWC, and the numbers that jump off the spec sheet are wild 4.0mm unfolded, 8.8mm folded, and a 6,660mAh battery crammed inside. For a foldable, that’s absurd in the best possible way.

Those figures come courtesy of Honor’s partnership with battery maker ATL. The Magic V6 uses a fifth-generation Silicon-Carbon (Si-C) battery with 25% silicon content, which Honor says is the highest in the industry right now. More silicon means higher energy density, which is how you squeeze a battery that big into a phone that thin.

But Honor’s already moved past the Magic V6 in the lab. The company showed off its Silicon-Carbon Blade Battery at MWC, which pushes silicon content up to 32% and hits an energy density above 900Wh/L. That battery is built with future foldables in mind — phones that’ll carry 7,000mAh and beyond without getting any thicker.

The “blade” part of the name isn’t just marketing speak, either. Honor brought in Rick Smith Jr., a guy who holds multiple Guinness World Records for card throwing, and handed him the Blade Battery to prove the point. He used it to slice through actual fruit like a real-life game of Fruit Ninja. There’s a short video of it, and yes, it’s exactly as entertaining as it sounds.
