Apple’s ultra-thin iPhone might not be waiting until 2027 after all. A new rumor from tipster Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo claims the iPhone Air 2 is now confirmed for the September 2026 event, reversing earlier reports that had pushed it back to spring of the following year.
The initial delay was allegedly the result of the subpremier sales of the first iPhone Air, which was released with the iPhone 17 line in September 2025. Apple seemingly did not feel so good about the performance of the slim model, which led to speculation that the company could roll out its successor at a slow pace.
But if this latest tip holds up, Apple’s sticking with the Air concept and giving it another shot sooner rather than later.
What’s changing with iPhone Air 2
The second-generation model will deal with some of the weaknesses of the first model. There is an alleged dual-camera rear (the initial Air was released with a single lens), a larger battery to counteract those slim dimensions and a vapor chamber cooling system to enhance thermo in such a small frame.
Perhaps most interesting: a lower price point. The original iPhone Air sat in an awkward spot – thinner than the standard iPhone but not as capable as the Pro models. Dropping the price could help it find a clearer audience.
What about everything else Apple’s planning
Fixed Focus Digital also claims that the iPhone 17e is already in mass production and is still projected to be released in spring 2026. That would be in line with the recent trend of Apple launching cheaper models that are not within the primary September release.
Considering September 2026 itself, there were previous reports indicating we would see the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro max, the rumored foldable iPhone, and now it would seem the iPhone Air 2 too. The average product iPhone 18 can be postponed to spring 2027, but it may vary.

Fixed Focus Digital has a decent track record with Apple leaks, but we’re still over a year out from these devices hitting shelves. Apple’s plans shift constantly based on supply chain realities, sales data, and competitive pressure. The original Air delay happened because Apple wasn’t happy with sales figures – if that sentiment changes internally, so do the timelines.
For now, September 2026 looks like the target. We’ll know more as production ramps up through next year.
