Samsung May Begin Charging for Certain Galaxy AI Features Starting in 2025

The Galaxy Tab S10 series and S24 FE made their debuts last week and Galaxy AI suite was one of the dominating features in the marketing side. While all of the new AI features are currently free, Samsung once again hinted that that may not be the case for too long.

One of the footnotes in the official press release for the new Tab S10 series and S24 FE explicitly mentions that “Fees may apply to certain AI features at the end of 2025.” Samsung previously confirmed that “Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices”, so it is safe to assume that Samsung’s AI suite, or certain parts of it, will require a payment from next year.

According to insiders, Samsung is exploring a subscription model or one-time payments for advanced AI features, especially as these technologies become more sophisticated and resource-intensive. This could include premium AI capabilities like enhanced voice assistants, real-time language translation, AI-driven photo and video editing tools, and other personalized AI services designed to improve the user experience.

The potential change is part of a broader strategy to monetize the company’s expanding AI ecosystem. As Samsung continues to invest in AI innovation and integrate these features more deeply into its devices, the costs associated with maintaining and developing cutting-edge AI technologies are rising. Charging for some features may help Samsung offset these expenses while continuing to deliver top-tier performance.

This move would not be entirely unprecedented—other tech companies have begun offering certain advanced AI tools through paid services. Samsung could roll out this model across its flagship Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series, with free basic AI features while more advanced options are locked behind a paywall.

While the company has not yet confirmed the specifics, these premium AI features are expected to be optional, allowing users to choose whether to upgrade based on their needs. As 2025 approaches, Samsung is likely to provide more details about which features will fall under this paid model and how it plans to balance paid and free services.

The decision to charge for AI features will be closely watched, as it could set a precedent in the smartphone industry and influence how other companies handle the integration of AI technologies. For now, Samsung Galaxy users will be waiting to see how this move will impact their device experience in the future.
